It was a must win game for both teams and as they kicked off one could only hope that the ever failing Mike Reilly would referee the game with control and skill. As the first 20 minutes unfolded it became obvious that Rafa had decided to go after Ballack. He was stifled, riled, and put to the sword in this opening and he never recovered.

It's now clear that Liverpool have caught a cold. Come what may the Anfield heroes have done enough to win games but have fallen at the last hurdle and tonight proved no exception. In truth it was an open game and while there was a clear lack of final ball from both sides it was entertaining to watch.
The Fortress Anfield Opens as Utd Go Top
With the 2009 season past its' mid-way point we are proud to announce the Grand opening of The Fortress Anfield. The only fly in the ointment is Utd have just gone top scoring 5 against a largely pointless West Brom. The other potential sticking point in the press are the rumours about one Robbie Keane and the possibility of him leaving.
